“Welcome to Operation 6 “
The Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council Inc. (JAVC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has established this web site in order to keep you informed about our Operation 6 program and the progress we have made. An Executive Summary can be located under its own tab and is a short read but covers the purpose and aims very well. I suggest that you take a minute to read this summary and understand why we are working hard to finish the construction of this facility.
Are you aware that Mohave County has the dubious distinction of having the largest veterans population in Arizona of homelessness, substance abuse and suicide? This is not an acceptable situation and Operation 6 is designed to reduce these issues.
The JAVC started out small through individual assistance to armed forces veterans and their families. While there are many resources available to veterans many gaps are still an issue and impede the progress toward workable solutions for our veterans.
In 2013 we added an annual At-Risk Veterans Stand Down and assisted over 2,000 veterans through the final Stand Down in 2019. This effort was accomplished through the efforts of many groups, organizations, agencies and volunteers and were a successful provider of housing, employment, legal services, benefits, and medical to many veterans. Our 2018 and 2019 Stand Downs resulted in every veteran seeking housing or a job having those needs fulfilled. We are now moving to community resource fairs that can better meet the needs of the location.
The JAVC was in on the start up of Veterans Treatment Courts in Lake Havasu City, Kingman and Bullhead City. We still provide assistance as requested to those that have run afoul of the justice system.
Through all our contacts with veterans we have come to the realization that sweeping the problem under the carpet is not working. We have come to believe that a success-based program is the best solution for giving a “hand up” to our most cherished citizens. Therefore Operation 6 was conceived.
We are inviting you to join us in this endeavor. We could use volunteers with experience in fundraising, marketing, membership, security, transportation (CDL “P”), Yard Sales or standing watch at the front desk. Welfare checks are also needed as our veterans population ages.
The item we need most is money. You can make a donation directly to us or you may direct up to $400 per Head of Household or $800 per Married Filing Jointly under the Qualified Charitable Organization regulations.
